The present document studies the enhancements of the management solutions of mobile networks that include virtualized core network functions (EPC or IMS) needed to support the management of virtualized network functions that are part of the New Radio (NR), as described in TR 38.801.

The present document studies on the management of virtualized network functions that are part of the NR that includes the following aspects:
  • The management use cases and requirements for the virtualized network functions that are part of the NR, and their relations with non-virtualized part of the RAN and the core networks.
  • Analysis to identify the gaps for the use cases and requirements that cannot be supported by the management solutions of mobile networks that include virtualized core network functions (EPC or IMS).
  • The potential solutions for the gaps identified above.
  • Recommendations on the next step.
